Surrounded still by the ancient city walls ,the old town of Side is located on a peninsula with sandy beaches.By having the largest Hellenistic theatre in the area with 17,000 seats overlooking the sea, a fascinating museum and astonishing Temple of Apollo, it flatters itself rightfully. Limited by barriers and the sea the accomodation in that old town is chiefly small hotells and pensions. The long salient of  sandy beach some kilometres away from Side is familiar with the name Kumköy (or sandy village)  and it has been the heart of tourism advancement in the town .Also there has been four or five star hotels and pensions. Everybody can find what he/she’s looking for ;wonderful beaches , high quality restaurants , history , a large amount of shops and lively nightlife.

As a classical and ancient center of settlement Side is 7 km away from Manavgat.It was founded in 1405 A.D. and governed respectively by Lydians, Persians, Alexander The Great, Antiogonous and Ptolemaioses beginning from the 2nd half of 6th century A.D.After the years 215 A.D it turned into a cultural place.After 78 B.C. the Byzantium Empire governed the city and it became a bishop centre during 5th and 6th centuries, lived its prosperous times during these years.
In the province of Side there are two main streets . Side’s main gate owns an unusual labour and is placed two between towers.Passing the gate the starting point of this street is some flat stones .

There have been porches with columns near both sides of the streets and shops behind them as well.Passing through a street after the theater a monumental structure could be reached.
This building or agora ,the market place of the area, has a dimension of 100x100m.On the street to the south side of the Agora there has been a Gymnasium surrounded by porticos.
Importance of architectural Side comes from its construction on places with arches.Having three divisions (the scene ,the orchestra,the cave) and a capacity of  20.000 spectators the theater has been the largest and most monolithic one among the

Outside Side ramparts wide cemeteries could be seen. In the region The Athena Apollon and Men temples are the most significant temples.
The city was reigned by was reigned during the 13th century by Seljukians, during the 14th century Hamitoğulları and Tekelioğulları, and during the 15th century finally Ottoman Empire
Most parts of Side ramparts that have been demolished today have the characteristics and the structure of the Roman and Byzantium periods.
