Located on the Gulf of Antalya on Turkey’s Mediterranean shore, Alanya (previously Alaja) has been a holiday resort for over 700 years. Today’s European package tourist is drawn here for the same reasons as the Seleukeia (Seljuk) Turks; the sea is warm and gentle, the beaches stretch for miles and the town has an authentic history.
There are several places to visit such as the Damlataş Caves, Alanya Castle and the Red Tower.
Also Alanya is backed by the pine forested Taurus Mountains and while on holiday there, a half hour’s drive out of town allows visitors to enjoy spectacular scene, as well as the charm of small, rural villages continues much as it always has been.
Alanya is a very noisy, crowded and popular holiday resort. The main highway runs through the resort, and causes pollution, noise and congestion.
Airport – Get in
Alanya is about 2 hours drive from the nearest airport in Antalya. Most holidaymakers land in Antalya and are then taken to their hotel in Alanya by bus. A new airport at Gazipasa to the south will reduce travel time to Alanya to around 20-30 minutes.
Alternatively, Antalya Airport.
Nightlife
Generally Alanya’s nightlife is centred on the harbour, but several locally frequented bars and clubs can be found tucked away in the side streets. An auditorium can be found there.Other favourite bars there include James Dean, Bistro Bellman, and Robin Hood. Several venues also provide more traditional entertainment such as belly dancing, fire shows and traditional music.
