Izmir (ancient name: Smyrna ) is Turkey’s third most populer city and the Turkey‘s largest port (harbour) after Istanbul. It is situated Gulf of Izmir, by the Aegean Sea. It is the seat of Izmir Province, which has an area of 7350 km2, is about three million people.

Also Izmir is a popular local tourist destination, is also has one of the most popular beach area in Turkey, located in Cesme is a poular resort town.

Climate / Weather

Izmir has a typical mediterranean climate. Izmir is characterized by long, hot and dry summers and mild to cool, rainy winters.

The average max temperatures in the winter, is between 12 – 14 °C.

Rarely, snow can fall in İzmir in December, January and February staying for a period of hours rather than a whole day or more.

The summer months ( May – October ) usually brings average daytime temperatures of 30 °C or higher. On a number of occasions, temperatures as high as 46°C have been recorded in the city.
